I get disappointed when I read that someone is excited to learn how to animate in school one day.
Just start. Do it. Learn it by failing a few times first, you’ll learn more than a professor can teach you in a few years of college. Not having the right program to animate is not an excuse, there are quite a few free programs online that also have animated gif options. There are also hundreds of beginning animators websites with FREE animation knowledge. I guarantee any art school will teach you the same basics. Google it.
Too many people use school as a fallback plan. ‘Oh, I’ll be going to art school soon so it’s cool’

School doesn’t make you successful. They give you the tools so you can do it yourself, but you need to have the drive.
